IN GOVERNMENT
The Roman created a government that helped to create many of the governments today, including in the US. This governent, the Republic, allowed the citizens of Rome to have a say and decision in the government. Rome also established their first known code of law called the Law of Twelve Tables. They developed a set of legal priciples known as the Laws of Nations which was develpoed on basic common sense notions of fairness and took note of the local practices and customs.
IN MILITARY
Rome had a very powerful army. It was made up of three groups: the legions, the auxilaries,and the Praetorian Guard. The legions were made up of about 5,000 Roman men citizens, who not only fought in battle, but built public works. The legions also included doctors, surveyors, and engineers. Auxilaries fought beside the legions. They were groups of non-citizen men who were specialized troops. The Praetorian Guard was stationed in the city and protected the Emperor.
IN ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Rome advanced the use of arches to help build bridges and aqueducts. They developed a material called concrete which is a very sturdy and strong material that is still used today. Rome also created an architecture desgin called the dome. Some of Romes greatest pieces of architecure are the Colosseum and the aqueduct.
Rome created scuptures and painting that were very realistic. Many of thier artwork was of Emperors or of people who had impact and power in Rome. The artists could show an individuals expression and personality through his/her's artwork.
